Update on Social Network Privacy

On February 6th, Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) introduced H.R. 537, which would prohibit employers, schools, and universities from requiring employees, prospective employees, or students to provide usernames and passwords to social networking accounts. The bill would also prohibit covered entities from disciplining, discriminating, or denying employment to individuals for refusing to volunteer social media account information. Engel stated, “It is erroneous to just say that if you don’t want your information accessed that you shouldn’t put it online.”
